Cantonese summer



The exhilarating summer programme adds special flavor to your learning.

Studying in the summer will give you plenty of time to explore the unique features of Hong Kong and China. Cantonese programmes for non-native speakers with a choice of 3 weeks, 5 weeks, 6 weeks and 3 months. On top of quality intensive lessons, exciting cultural activities and budget on-campus accommodation will be provided if needed. Be prepared to immerse yourself in a vibrant environment and be equipped with exotic cultural experience.

Course load : 3 to 5 sessions a day, 5 days per week, 80 to 165 sessions per programme, daytime lessons.

Class location : mainly at CUHK Shatin campus

Cantonese Summer Term (11 weeks)


Term date: Wednesday, June 3, 2020 - Tuesday, August 11, 2020 

APPLICATION DEADLINE: March 3, 2020 (Student visa applicants) May 13, 2020 (non-student visa applicants)

Morning Class: 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. OR Afternoon Class: 1:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

June 3 Wednesday Classes Begin

June 9 Tuesday Last Day for Adding/Dropping of Courses

June 25 Thursday Public Holiday – Tuen Ng (Dragon Boat) Festival

July 1 Wednesday Public Holiday – Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Establishment Day

August 7 Friday Last Teaching Day

August 10-18 Monday-Tuesday Course Exams/ Graduation Exam/ Exam Make-up*

*Course exams, graduation exam, exam make-up will be provided if appropriate, and the schedule is different from course to course.

Cantonese Summer Short Course for Non-Chinese Speakers (S2-6 weeks)


Date: July 2 to August 10, 2020 

80 study hours leading to Foundation Certificate Programme in Chinese (Cantonese) for Non-Chinese Speakers. the modules focus on oral skills and listening comprehension, with proficiency-oriented activities based on useful vocabulary items, daily expressions and a wide variety of patterns. For reference only, students are usually expected to spend no less than 4 hours a week on revision to make progress. By the end of the foundation programme, students are expected to use Cantonese to ask and respond to simple questions, convey minimal meaning and satisfy some immediate needs.
