Putonghua/ Mandarin




The exhilarating summer programme adds special flavor to your learning.

Studying in the summer will give you plenty of time to explore the unique features of Hong Kong and China. Putonghua programmes for non-native speakers with a choice of 2 weeks, 3 weeks, 5 weeks, 6 weeks and 3 months. On top of quality intensive lessons, exciting cultural activities and budget on-campus accommodation will be provided if needed. Be prepared to immerse yourself in a vibrant environment and be equipped with exotic cultural experience.

Course load : 3 to 5 sessions a day, 5 days per week, 80 to 165 sessions per programme, daytime lessons. 

Class location : mainly at CUHK Shatin campus

Putonghua Summer Term (11 weeks)


Term date: Wednesday, June 3, 2020 - Tuesday, August 11, 2020

Putonghua Summer Short Course (S2-6 weeks)
普通話暑期速成班(非華語人士對象, S2-6週)


Date: July 2 to August 10, 2020 

80 study hours leading to Foundation Certificate award in Chinese as Foreign/ Second Language (Putonghua). The programme aims to give all-rounded training in Chinese (Putonghua) with emphasis on oral skill and listening comprehension. All the four speech functions namely listening, speaking, reading and writing will be taught. The programme consists of proficiency-oriented activities based on useful vocabulary items, daily expressions and a wide variety of patterns. Simplified Chinese characters will be taught in ALL Putonghua courses.

PRINCH (total immersion programme in China)


Date:  May 11 to 24, 2020. 14 days 13 nights. 

Location: Beijing 

A 3-credit CUHK total immersion programme in Chinese language and culture for intermediate and advanced Chinese language learners.​

News: As the University Almanac has been revised due to the developing epidemic, the scheduled time of PRINCH is now in conflict with final examinations week of the extended Spring 2020 term. Consequently, after much thought and consideration of various factors, we regret to inform you that the PRINCH program (including the information session) will be canceled this year.
Should conditions improve and there is an opportunity to re-organize PRINCH in time, we will contact you immediately.
